1 x Classic Dog (chili, cheddar, mustard, onions) $2.99, 1 x G/M Steakhouse Dog (cheddar, dill pickles, mustard, onions), and 1/4 of a corn dog, $2.39

This place gets major style points. Honestly, I’m incredibly jealous of their genius name and brilliant logo (a hot dog with angel wings, standing on a cloud), and sort of pissed off that they thought of this first. If their hot dogs had been more convincing, I probably would have bought a t-shirt.

Aside from the great logo, this place has a cool, welcoming atmosphere and even had some root beer on draft. I’m always a sucker for that. I really wanted to love this place, but the dogs just didn’t thrill me. On their classic chili dog, the chili could have used a bit more body. The proportions were maybe a bit off and I just didn’t get that same sense of enlightenment that you get with a really excellent chili dog like the ones at Ben’s Chili Bowl or Pink’s.

The G/M Steakhouse dog seemed to disappoint everyone in the house. I just don’t think this one really works as a combo. It needed something else in there. Maybe I was expecting it to have some sort of BBQ sauce because of its name. I think I need to read menus more closely.

1 x white hot with Coleman’s mustard and roasted red pepper

Auntie Paula cooks at a pretty high level. I think she got nervous about our touring entourage though, so when we showed up, it was for a Sunday night cookout with burgers and dogs. Of course, she’s definitely aware of my penchant for hot dogs, so she sought out a classic from upstate New York for us: the Hoffmann White Hot. I’d only had these once before on that garbage place in Rochester, so I was excited to try them on their own.

Uncle Mike grilled them up nice outside and then I added in a spicy streak of Coleman’s along with Auntie’s homemade roasted red peppers. The peppers were a great touch as they really balanced out the heat from the mustard, while complimenting the light smoky flavor of the white hot. These were definitely a winner, but after trying a touch of the Red Hot, I think that would have made an even nicer combo. Next time.
