Company softball game (Playoffs Round 2) vs. Vitex, Arsenal Field, Watertown, MA

1.5 x Pearl’s Kountry Klub 1/4lb all-beef, grilled by Mike on a sesame seeded submarine roll, Sara Lee’s 3 Pepper Mustard

This game was huge. We turned it on for this one. This team knocked us out of the playoffs last year, plus they have some players who are really competitive, but not in a friendly way. Last year one of their players made me take off my metal spikes after waving the rulebook in my face (they are “technically” illegal). That’s how serious this bunch is. This year they had the best record in the league and had a bye for the first round of playoffs. Yes, it looked like smooth sailing to the championship for Vitex. Until they met the Acambis Softball Machine! The game was really close for the first five innings and in the bottom of the fifth things got ugly. There was a hotly contested call on a roller down the third base line. Our catcher grabs it, their 3rd base coach calls it fair. Everyone starts arguing. Our catcher goes nuts and ends up pushing one of the guys on the other team. Benches empty. People get restrained. Our catcher gets thrown out of the game. Eventually order is restored. But the incident seemed to catalyze our team and in the top of the next inning we exploded for a whole bunch of runs. The other team was pissed that they lost to us, and that made us feel really good. And after a victory like this, the dogs taste even better. Things got switched up a bit with the sesame-seeded roll, but it’s cool man. I can deal with change.
